The Tour de la Vallée d'Illiez (TVI) is a new, multi-day hiking tour which links our existing network of hiking routes into one continuous circuit for a complete walking tour of the magnificent Illiez Valley.
The entire circuit is more than 60 km long with an elevation gain of 3,780 m and generally takes 3 to 5 days to complete.
The itinerary comprises 5 principal stages:
• Monthey – Morgins
• Morgins – Crettet-Borney
• Crettet-Borney – Barme
• Barme – Champéry
• Champéry – Monthey
The TVI showcases some of the most iconic landmarks here at the gateway to the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil recreational area. Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches massifs, or the Portes du Soleil, Cou, Bretolet and Chavanette Passes. The tour traverses rich and varied alpine landscapes bursting with forests, lakes and wanterfalls, but it also includes quaint hamlets and villages for a taste of local culture.
This latest addition joins a panoply of famous alpine tours that crisscross our region – the Tour des Dents du Midi, the Tour des Dents Blanches, and the Tour du Ruan, as well as the famous GR5 (Grande Traversée des Alpes).
Each stage offers its own unique opportunity to discover a different aspect of our region for hikers of all levels. The itineraries all offer less challenging alternative variations or public transportation itineraries via the TPC (Transports Publics du Chablais) trains and busses.
The tour was created with the help of a local heritage association, Les Amis des Sentiers de la Vallée d’Illiez. They have published a free booklet on the tour, which can be found in Region Dents du Midi tourist offices.
