This summer, our curling hall will have 2 Boulingrin lanes. What is Boulingrin?
Lawn bowling (from the English bowling green, now called lawn bowling) is a game of boules that originated in England. Commonly played throughout the Commonwealth (particularly in the British Isles, Australia and New Zealand), it is little known in the rest of the world.
The bowls are not spherical, but slightly squashed at both poles. What’s more, their shape is asymmetrical, meaning that one of the poles is more squashed than the other. This gives them an elliptical trajectory, which is particularly pronounced at low speeds. To hit the target, the player has to balance his force and his line of fire.
In the Middle Ages, lawn bowls were made from yew, ash or oak. Since the 16th or 17th century, guaiac, a very hard and heavy wood, has been used. Each ball weighs around 1.5 kg.
It’s a fun activity similar to pétanque and curling. For 2 players or more, up to 8 people.
