The Cantine Sur Cou, perched on a grassy outcropping just above the village, offers panoramic views of the Dents du Midi.
Take the Chavalet Road out of town in the direction of Val d’Illiez. After the Calvert Cross, follow the pedestrian path that climbs steeply up the grassy hill for Sur Cou. At the Cantine Sur Coux restaurant, continue along the paved road in the direction of Ayerne. The road rapidly becomes a gravel path and then a footpath. At 1,475m, take the steep trail on your left back down to where it meets up with the Sur Cou Road and then the Planachaux road to the village.
Variation for baby buggies: (see the 2nd map)
Walk to Sur Cou by the Rumières Road (paved all the way except for a a short switchback section of gravel road), then walk back to the village via the Sur Cou road.
Good to know: you can take the free Dents du Midi tourist train up to or back from the Cantine if you want a shorter outing.
